Leisure Assistant Apprenticeship

Within our Leisure Apprenticeships we provide you with the necessary qualifications and hands on experience in your chosen field to begin a great career. While undertaking one of our apprenticeships, you will be responsible for a range of duties to grow and develop your skills.

LESIURE ASSISTANT APPRENTICE – Job reference 621              

30 hours per week, £192 per week at Splash in Stockton.

We have successfully worked with the Lifetime Training Group Limited since 2016 to deliver the apprenticeship scheme. At Tees Active, we have been supporting young people to take their first steps into the exciting world of leisure.

A high number of our apprentices go on to secure employment with us once their apprenticeship has finished, which highlights our commitment to nurturing talented young people at the beginning of their journey.

SUMMARY
At Tees Active you will work towards your Community Activator Coach L2 Apprenticeship Qualification over the course of 12-18 Months.
To be considered for this role, you must be a strong and confident swimmer. If you are invited to interview for this role you will be required to complete a swim test as part of the interview process. In order to be considered for the role you must be able to demonstrate you are able to do the following.

 Jump/dive into deep water
 Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
 Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water and then tread water for 30 seconds
 Surface dive to floor of pool (deepest part)
 Climb out of a swimming pool unaided by ladders/steps and where pool design permits

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
To ensure the safe, efficient and enjoyable use of the facilities by customers and assist in the overall development of the Centre. To deal with customer/service enquiries in a professional and positive way. Ensuring that the service maintains a strong customer focus and remains committed to the principles of Customer Service Excellence Standard.

Day to Day-
– To assist in providing day to day assistance in the supervision of the security of the building, and the conduct of the customer.
– To assist in ensuring that the facility is prepared for the customers ensuring the correct timing, including setting up and dismantling equipment or furniture, cleaning facilities and ensuring health and safety standards are maintained at all times.
– To understand and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety at Work procedures, personally and for colleagues, children and other customers. This includes compliance with Health and Safety policy and systems, report any faults/incidents/accidents/damage/hazards and take a pro-active approach to Health and Safety matters in order to protect yourself and others. This includes timely reporting and recording of such matters to the General Management team.
– To assist in the implementation of emergency procedures and operational plans where appropriate, e.g. evacuation and drowning.
– To assist where appropriate in the development of the centre’s programme through events, competitions and new activities.
– To provide advice and assistance to users of the Centre(s) in relation to existing and future activity programmes.
– To work and communicate efficiently and effectively within and between workgroups.
– To undertake general duties as required at the Centre(s).
– To carry out cleaning and litter picking duties within the centre.
– To give all reasonable advice and assistance to customers using the centre(s).
– To assist with patrolling the building to prevent abuse of facilities by customers or unauthorised access.
– Once trained and assessed to be competent, to give trained assistance to users in difficulty and when necessary to give first aid to any injuries sustained by either members of the public or other members of staff.
– Once you obtain the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification you will be required to undertake regular “Pool Lifeguard” training, ensuring that at all times the post holder is able to achieve the minimum standard as approved by the Royal Life Saving Society, and compliance with NOP/EAP.
– To assist in the preparation for special events and galas, ensuring that all equipment is safe for its intended use.

GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (Grade C/4) Essential

These programmes often lead to possible progression into full and part time roles, further qualifications, higher level apprenticeships and employment within the leisure sector.

LEISURE TEAM MEMBER APPRENTICESHIP

The Leisure Team Member is responsible for a range of operational duties such as assisting with the opening and closing of the facility, undertaking routine maintenance of equipment and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the leisure environment.

On completion of this standard apprentices will be competent in five key areas including; leisure and fitness operations, lifeguard duties, swimming teaching duties, gym instruction and leading group activities.

CUSTOMER SERVICE APPRENTICESHIP

The Customer Service apprenticeship develops the expertise required by customer-facing specialists dealing with a range of leisure clients. The programme builds on existing knowledge to develop learners into experts in customer service, understanding the active leisure customer journey in detail.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION APPRENTICESHIP

The Business Administration Apprenticeship provides the opportunity for administrators in the fitness sector to grow and develop their skills towards management capabilities. Learners will understand how to troubleshoot and improve administrative processes, build strong working relationships with key clients, and develop person and professional skills to thrive in a busy environment.
