Supporting talented young athletes to achieve their sporting ambitions

Tees Active Sports Academy

The Tees Active Sports Academy supports local athletes to achieve their very best. From figure skating and slalom, boxing and athletics and many other sports, we support local young talent to reach for the stars! Members of Tees Active’s Sports Academy have represented the North East around the world, taking part in and winning a variety of championships. Some have even represented our country in the Olympics!

Tees Active Sports Academy Members

Jake Brown

K1M Canoe slalom

As a member of Tees Active’s Sports Academy since 2013, Jake has taken part in many competitions and has achieved a great deal.

  • GB U18 Team 2018

  • Ranked 9th in the UK 2019, England National Team at the Panceltic Cup, England Performance Squad U23, England National Squad U18, Northern Super regional squad U16, Northern Regional Squad U16 and Tees Tigers Canoe Club.

  • Italy, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, France

  • Loves outdoor sports and being outdoors

Amy Carr

Athletics, 100m, 200m and Long Jump

Since joining the academy in 2015, Amy represented Scotland at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and was the GB team captain at the World Junior Games 2017. Growing from strength to strength, Amy has achieved a great deal and has plans to achieve more.

  • IPC World Junior Games 2017 – 100m bronze, 200m gold & long jump gold

  • Commonwealth Games 2018 & London Anniversary Games 2019

  • Brazil, Holland, Switzerland & Australia

  • Currently in her final year of MSci Sport and Exercise Science degree

Daisy Cooil

Canoe Slalom – Canoe and Kayak

Daisy has been a member of the academy since 2013, she is a passionate athlete who has accomplished a great deal and shows no signs of slowing down.

  • Earned Silver representing Team GB at the World Championships in Ivrea (Canoe) J18 Team Event 2018

  • Represented GB at European Championships in Bratislava (Canoe) J18 2018 – 9th place

  • Italy, Slovakia, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria

  • Daisy is an Ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust

Sophie Crowther

Figure Skating

As a member of the academy since 2019, Sophie is a passionate skater who has achieved a great deal in a short space of time.

  • 1st place at the North East Opens

  • Enjoys keeping fit

  • Competes & trains in Scotland & Wales

  • Would like to skate on cruise ships in the future

Faith Freeman

Figure Skating

As a member of the academy since June 2019, Faith is skating from strength to strength and has a promising future ahead of her.

  • 1st place at the British Young Stars Competition & finalist at the Evening Gazette Awards

  • Member of the British Young Stars Development Team

  • Very fitness focused and recently taken up Spinning

  • Faith is very artistic

Jacob Hammond

Ice Hockey

As a member of the academy since 2019, Jacob is a passionate Goalie who protects his house and has achieved a great deal in a short space of time.

  • All Star Award when representing North East England

  • Team England u15’s, Northern Conference u11’s, u13’s, u15’s & u17’s

  • Nickname in school was Crouchy

  • Enjoys playing video games in his spare time

Annalise Jones

Figure Skating

Since joining the academy in 2017, Annalise has shown dedication and passion for her sport and has achieved great things.

  • Qualified for the British Championships in 2017 & 2018

  • Wants to travel the world

  • Likes to cook

  • Fitness focused

Joe Maphosa

Boxing

Since joining the academy in 2015, Smokin’ Joe has gone from strength to strength. Former Team GB amateur boxer Joe, is now a professional boxer fighting in Flyweight, Super flyweight categories.

  • Won 3 Gold medals in international tournaments

  • Member of Team GB Olympic Boxing 2014-2016

  • Germany, Finland, Ireland, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania

  • Joe loves to cook

Eve Ovington

K1 Canoe Slalom

As a member of the academy since 2019, Eve is an experienced problem solver who tackles the Whitewater with confidence and precision.

  • 1st International Podium Position in 2017 Flattach Austria

  • Currently ranked 14th in Premier Division in UK

  • Spain, France, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria

  • Vegetarian
