National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)

To become a pool lifeguard you must first complete your NPLQ, a course which is broken into three sections:
1: The Lifeguard and the Law, Swimming Pool Supervision | 2: Intervention and Rescue and Emergency Action Plans | 3: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, AED and First Aid

Candidates who attend an NPLQ course must meet the following entry criteria:

16+

Aged 16 years+

Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds

Tread water for 30 seconds

Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water

Surface dive to the floor of the pool

Climb out unaided without ladder/step

Course Length and Considerations

Minimum guided learning hours for National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is 36 hours.

Health & Fitness Advisor (Gym Instructor)

To become an Advisor the starting point is achieving a Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification. This can be achieved either online or combined online/face. Your commitment is to work through the theory and practical elements (modules) required. You will have the opportunity to obtain hands on practical experience via support and guidance from our highly qualified Health & Fitness team.

Progression Pathway

Following completion of the level 2 qualification and assessment of the required knowledge & skill set, there will be an opportunity to up skill to level 3 Personal Training and or Level 3 Specialist courses – Exercise Referral, Obesity and Diabetes, Disabled Client, Older Adults and Pre and Post Natal.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and experience, joining a team of motivated fitness specialists who strive to make a difference to people’s lives by improving their health and wellbeing.

Fitness Interest

Have a basis knowledge of the benefits of training, an overall interest and ideally train themselves.

People Skills

Have good interpersonal skills and be motivated to help and support others achieve their goals.

Passionate

Have a passion for sport and physical activity. Tees Active’s Health & Fitness team share this passion and will support individuals on the program to achieve certification offering advice, guidance and knowledge.

Process

Candidates will be selected following an interview process, which will include discussing potential career opportunities, progression, shift patterns/hours and availability.

Course Length and Considerations

Learning hours for Level 2 Gym Instructor 6 – 8 weeks

Proposed course delivery

40% Course Work, 30% Online Workshops, 30% Practical

Practical elements held on evenings or weekends.

Course Fees

Your contribution – £150 ( discount of £450 applied). Subject to being selected via a recruitment process to join the ‘Kickstart programme’ and gaining employment either on a casual or contracted basis.

Swimming Teacher

To become a swimming teacher there are two qualifications to gain:

Level 1 | Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) course which is the first step and it allows you to support a Level 2 Swimming Teacher to coach sessions.

Level 2 | Swim England Level 2 Teaching course which will enable you to lead on delivery of the Learn to Swim and/or School Swimming sessions.

Shadowing

Minimum of 30 hours shadowing time is required in between courses.

Guided Hours (Level 1)

18hrs per week - Evenings and Weekends

Guided Hours (Level 2)

34hrs - Evenings and Weekends

Course Length and Considerations

All courses will be delivered and assessed through our Approved Training Centre and delivered by our training provider Swim England.

Course Fees

£150 for both level 1 & level 2 (discount of £1,050 applied) subject to being selected via a recruitment process to join the ‘Kickstart programme’ and gaining employment on a contracted basis.

Volunteer Aquatics Helper

This is a new exciting opportunity for individuals to gain experience, build their confidence and make a difference to the local community. Our new Aquatics Helper is a volunteer role within our Learn to Swim scheme where you can use your previous experience to support people learning to swim. Although a swimming background isn’t necessary, you must appreciate the benefits of this life saving skill and be motivated to teach others, successful applicants will receive full training and support.

This new role will involve:

– Working with a small group of swimmers
– Providing one-to-one support to beginners and/or swimmers who lack confidence
– Building supportive relationships with participants on our Learn to Swim Scheme
– Encouraging and motivating swimmers to overcome barriers and build confidence

Fitness Coaching

To become a fitness coach the starting point is achieving an Exercise to Music Qualification. We would advise combined online/face to face training. Your commitment to work through the theory and practical elements (modules) required.

Progression Pathway

Following completion of the Exercise to Music qualification and assessment of the required knowledge & skill set, there will be an opportunity to obtain practical experience of delivering group exercise via shadowing/supporting one of our experienced coaches. Along with this the opportunity to up skill in a range of group exercise disciplines, Pilates, Aqua, Group Cycling, Les Mills programmes and Level 3 Exercise Referral.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and experience, joining a team of motivated fitness specialists who strive to make a difference to people’s lives by improving their health and wellbeing.

Level 2 Exercise to Music

Opportunity to obtain recognised Level 2-4 certification in line with CIMSPA

Support to develop teaching/instructing skills

Including shadowing our experienced team

Opportunity to upskill in leading group exercise providers certification

Including Group Cycling, Aqua, Pilates, Yoga and GP referral

Course Requirements

Candidates must be 16 years and over meet the pre-entry criteria of the training provider.

Course Length and Considerations

Learning hours for Exercise to Music 3-6 months

Proposed Course Delivery

blended learning, 25% course work and 50% workbook online and 25% practical that includes four days (two weekends) of practical learning. Travelling will be required.

Your contribution – £150 ( discount of £450 applied). Subject to being selected via a recruitment process to join the ‘Kickstart programme’ and gaining employment either on a casual or contracted basis.
