Water Babies Tees Valley is celebrating the recruitment of its 1000th swimmer.

The milestone comes after a difficult year, in which the company was forced to close its doors due to the Covid19 pandemic, but now the organisation is bouncing back stronger than ever.

Chief Executive, Pamela Hargreaves, said:

‘We have an amazing team here at Water Babies who work so hard to provide world class teaching to all our little swimmers and I am delighted that so many local families have put their faith in us after this difficult year. To have 1000 babies swimming with us every single week across Teesside is just incredible.’

Water Babies teaches children from as young as just a few days old, right up to the age of five and the benefits are massive. Swimming from an early age helps babies move independently before they can crawl or walk, strengthens hand-eye coordination, develops fine motor skills, strengthens the heart, lungs and muscles, stimulates cognitive development and helps with eating and sleeping patterns.

The company works with many partners in the leisure industry, including Stockton-on-Tees leading leisure provider Tees Active. Leon Jones, Tees Active’s Managing Director said:

‘When we welcomed Water Babies to our centres we knew they’d be a hugely successful! It has been a pleasure working with them and the service they provide makes a huge difference to young children which allows them to build and develop their water confidence before enrolling onto Tees Active’s Learn to Swim Scheme. It’s a collaborative approach and great partnership’

One such child is Darcy, age 2, whose mum, Georgina, could not be happier:

‘Darcy had her first lesson at 2 years old, so it’s not just for babies, and she has loved every minute of it. It is so important to give your children confidence in the water and the teachers at Water Babies do an amazing job to ensure you are happy and comfortable. I would recommend them to everyone.’

The company has now bought a second territory, expanding into Durham and Darlington where they already have over 700 babies swimming every week despite many of their venues still remaining closed.

Pamela Hargreaves added:

‘It is such an exciting time to be involved in baby and toddler swimming and if you want to find out more just give us a ring and one of our team will be more than happy to help.’
