Stockton-based Community Leisure Trust, Tees Active, have been crowned winners of the Tourism and Hospitality Award at the Teesside Business Awards 2019 for their adventure attractions, Tees Barrage International White Water Centre and Air Trail.
Held on Thursday 28th March in the Olympic Building at Teesside University, the prestigious event showcased the very best of business in Teesside and brought together organisations big and small to celebrate the partnership, innovation, hard work and success that has contributed to securing Teesside’s position as a thriving destination for business.
Finalists from each category were visited by an official judge to gain a better understanding of the organisation and the experiences they offer, as well as looking at visitor numbers from within and outside the region, financial performance, environmental actions and support for the local community.
Leon Jones, Managing Director of Tees Active, explained, “Tees Barrage is a truly unique destination that provides adventure activities that cannot be experienced anywhere else in the area and we are delighted to have achieved such a reputable accolade and be recognised as a leading tourist attraction in the North East. Our region is rich in culture and heritage and we have so much to offer visitors from outside of the area.
“We are particularly proud to not only be acknowledged for the work we do to attract visitors from across the UK, but for the positive work we do to engage with the local community. We work with schools, charities, environmental groups and partners, and remain committed to ensuring everyone can enjoy the many fun and exciting activities we offer. Of course, this achievement is owed above all to the fantastic team we have at Tees Active. It is their hard work and dedication that has made this success possible.”
Tees Barrage International White Water Centre and Air Trail will now be considered alongside the winners from the same category of the ‘Durham, Sunderland & South Tyneside’ and ‘Northumberland & Tyneside’ heats in the Grand Final of the North East Business Awards on 16th May at Hardwick Hall Hotel.
