Tees Active is working in partnership with Stockton Library Service and the National Literacy Trust to motivate and enable customers and staff to engage with the National Year of Reading.
In April, staff from Stockton Libraries were present in Tees Active’s Activ8 gyms to enable customers to join their local library and access the Libby app, which provides free access to a wide selection of e-audiobooks. This proved to be so successful that Stockton Libraries are repeating the initiative in July.
The Go All In campaign highlights the benefits of reading and promotes the message that everyone can make time to read. To coincide with the Summer of Sport element of the campaign, Tees Active has introduced a light-hearted initiative encouraging staff and customers to pose for photographs showing them reading in sporting environments.
Allan McDermott, Tees Active Community Engagement Manager, said: “It’s a pleasure to be working with the National Literacy Trust and Stockton Libraries, enabling the community to embrace opportunities to engage with the National Year of Reading within Tees Active venues. We have had great fun with staff and customers capturing some unusual and entertaining photographs to promote the Summer of Sport element of the campaign.”
Lucy Reeves, Project Officer (Literacy Champions – Northeast) at the National Literacy Trust, added: “Stockton Library Service and Tees Active have created something quite unique in the way they are promoting the National Year of Reading within their community. It’s fantastic to show how accessible reading is and show that it is for everyone, whether you are a figure skater or hockey player, football player or swimmer… There is something to read for everyone, no matter your passion or interest!”
The partnership between Tees Active, Stockton Library Service, and the National Literacy Trust is already planning a ‘sign up to your local library’ session in September for young people and adult skaters at Billingham Forum.
