The Stockton Care Home Physical Activity Coordinators Network continued their programme of sampling different venues and activities as they visited The Forum Theatre. Coordinated by Stockton Councils Transformation Team the network has been set up to bring Activity Coordinators together from across all care homes in Stockton.
The meetings give care staff the opportunity to share good practice and ideas and to keep up to date with what provisions are available to residents in 24hr residential care.
The meeting at The Forum Theatre coincided with the first Warm Welcome session in Billingham and enabled the activity coordinators to assess whether the session was suitable for their residents. This was followed by a behind the scenes tour of the Theatre led by Forum Theatre legend Rich McElvenny. The highlight of the tour was when the coordinators were invited onto the stage.
Tanya Spence the Activity Coordinator at Mandale Care Home said, “The network has enabled us to forge friendships within our own homes and the wider community between activity workers and we have a really family feel to the group.”
Dominique Campbell from Wellburn House Care Home gave her thoughts of the Care Home Legends Programme “The Care Home Legends and skating have been really good because family members of the residents can come along and be involved as well. It is great that we all get together and all share these experiences and enjoy them as one big family.”
The last word goes to Parveen Mughal from Windsor Court Care Home who added “We have gained a lot more confidence in participating in a variety of new activities and we now have more new ideas whilst forging friendships with different homes.”
