The sun came out for 6 teams who participated in the Stockton Schools Bell Boating Regatta at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre. Organised by Stockton School Sports in partnership with Tees Active teams from Conyers, Ian Ramsey, St Micheals, and Teesside High competed under their racing names of Radnor Rangers, Teesside Titans, Baguettes, The Tanks, Ramsey Rowers, and Ramsey Racers.
The main emphasis of the Regatta was for everybody to have a fun day on the water in a new environment. The competition did hot up as the 2 boat races were increased to 3 boat races as the teams were involved in either the Champions league competition or the UEFA Conference competition. With the wind picking up the 3 boat races entertained the cheering spectators, and keeping a straight course become an issue and there were plenty of calls for VAR to be brought into action!!!!!
Peter Sheahan, Competition Manager for the Stockton Schools Sports Partnership said “ Todays Bell boating Regatta has been a fantastic day for everybody involved and the theme of fun and competition has been evident with the smiles on the pupils and teachers faces. Hopefully we can make the regatta an even bigger and better event next year and create a festival atmosphere on the river.”
Allan McDermott Community Engagement Manager for Tees Active added “ There has been a great atmosphere on the river today and our instructors have enjoyed the day nearly as much as the pupils participating. The pupils attending today have really entered into the spirit of the event and we are already looking forward to next years regatta.”
