Wa-ter Lotta Fun
The sun shone on over 70 pupils at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre as they participated in the Tees Valley Sport, Project Ability, Special School Bell boat Regatta. The pupils from Whitehouse and Ashtrees School were paddling bell boats which were adorned with Piranha, Crocodile and shark heads at their bow as pupils teachers powered their way down the idyllic course guided by the barrage staff.
The participants were assisted and supported from Year 10 pupils from St Michaels RC School in Billingham BTEC Sport group who were instrumental in ensuring the day ran smoothly. Tony Hall PE teacher from St Michaels said “This has been an thoroughly enjoyable and fantastic experience for our pupils that I am sure will reinforce our holistic view in developing each individual pupil.”
Carol Hawman, Schools Project Officer for Tees Valley Sport said “The children really enjoyed the bell boating. For many it was their first time in a boat so it was a positive learning experience, developing their confidence and team work skills, as well as being a highly enjoyable activity. The staff were superb, both in terms of organisation and in relating to and encouraging the children. We hope the event has raised schools’ – and families’ – awareness of some of the local facilities that can support them to take part in PE and sport.”
