Swim Challenge Successes
In the last few months of 2018 we welcomed new and existing swimmers to take on two challenges which could be completed at either Billingham Forum, Stockton Splash or Thornaby Pool.
We introduced a series of swim challenges to keep our swimmers engaged and interested in swimming in order to help them with their overall health and fitness levels. They also allowed swimmers to set goals and track their progress and achievements. More importantly it allowed us (Tees Active) to reward our loyal and hardworking customers.
First up was our ‘Swim From Alcatraz’ challenge. The aim of the challenge being to swim the 2.4km (96 lengths) from Alcatraz Prison back to the mainland in San Francisco. We had over 500 entries across our 3 pools with some swimmers even completing the challenge all at once! We also had several multiple entries which was brilliant to see!
Charles McGarva was randomly selected as our winner and received a festive hamper which also included the film classic Escape From Alcatraz DVD. Charles is a regular swimmer at Billingham Forum attending at least 3 times a week and enjoys both keeping fit and socialising in the pool.

Secondly was our Swim To Lapland Challenge. We worked out that it would take a mere 435 hours to swim to Lapland from Stockton-on-Tees at an average speed. To make things a little easier we tasked swimmers with the challenge of 435 lengths – almost 11km! Swimmers only had 1 month to complete this challenge but there was still a brilliant response with many entries.
Natalie Hazell was the deserved winner of this challenge and received a hamper filled with lots of goodies as well as a Tees Active Voucher. Natalie has been swimming at Splash for a couple of years and worked incredibly hard to complete it remaining very committed to her swimming schedule.

We will be releasing details of our latest swim challenge tomorrow night so keep your eyes peeled!
