Scandinavian Success for Judo Stars!
A talented Teesside sporting family are taking a grip of the international Judo scene. Rachel, Eve and Joe Jackson who are members of Thornaby pavilion Judo Club and Tees Active Sports Academy have just returned to Teesside after competing in Norway at the Vestlands Cup.
These talented teenagers were part of a 17-strong squad from England who travelled to Stavanger. Fifteen-year-old Joe had an excellent competition in the Under 60kg category he won a gold medal in the senior men’s event, he followed this up by another gold medal in the cadet boys. Joe completed his hat trick of medals when he won a silver in the Junior men’s competition.
Not to be out done by their younger brother twins Rachel and Eve who were competing in the Under 57kg weight division of the under 18 cadets, under 21 junior women’s and the senior women’s event. Eve began the day by taking the gold medal in the Junior Women’s U/21’s defeating the Norwegian No.1 and also her twin sister Rachel who won the silver medal.
Next they competed in the U/18 Cadets with honours even as Rachel won the gold medal after an epic 16 minute final fight against Eve who had to settle for the silver medal on this occasion.
Finally, they competed in the Senior Women’s with Rachel finishing runner-up to the Norwegian Champion and Eve winning the Bronze medal.
On day 2 they attended an International training camp run by Olympic Bronze medallist Neil Eckersley and the Norwegian Coaches.
