Golden Girl Amy
Teesside athlete Amy Carr returned to a wintery Teesside with Brazil a distant memory and a gold medal packed in her bags. Amy a member of Middlesbrough AC and Tees Active Sports Academy has been competing at the Brazilian Paralympic School Games as part of the Great Britain TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) team
The games staged in Sao Paulo were a fantastic success for the Great Britain team with a medal haul of 15 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes, and 15 year old Amy did not let Teesside down with a fantastic performance in the T37 100m, winning a gold medal in a personal best time of14.86 seconds.
Amy who is coached by Rick Betts said “The whole trip to Brazil was a fantastic experience and there was a superb atmosphere amongst the Great Britain athletes. To win a gold medal in a personal best time in November was the icing on the cake. At this time of the year I am normally in heavy winter training so to produce a quick time was a real bonus.”
Amy will come back to earth with a bump as she returns to school at Egglescliffe Secondary School this week and acclimatises herself to an English winter. This will not deter this talented teenager who will be back training hard for the 2015 season as she looks to produce more fast times.
