Free Indoor Bowls Course for Thornaby-on-Tees Residents
Tees Active in partnership with North Star Housing Group have provided a free, 6 week indoor bowls course for residents of Thornaby-on-Tees to help encourage residents to become more active and learn a new skill. These sessions have been generously funded by North Star Housing Group.
Starting on Thursday 6th February at Thornaby Pavilion’s excellent indoor bowling venue, where Tees Active already host a number of indoor bowls leagues including Men’s Triples, Ladies Fours and Australian Pairs, this course hopes to encourage physical activity through a fun and accessible sport which can be tailored to each individual’s needs. This club offers specialised equipment to enable everyone the ability to play indoor bowls which includes a manually operated bowls wheelchair, bowling arms and bowls and jack lifters.
Coral Smith, North Star’s Community Connector who organised the event for North Star said “part of North Star’s vision is to help build futures. We are helping to do this by offering physical activities to not only North Star residents but all residents of Thornaby-on-Tees which will help to keep them active and improve both physical and mental health. Tees Active have been great in helping us to arrange this course which is free to participants.”
Tees Active’s Community Engagement Manager Allan McDermott highlighted, “it’s great to be able to offer something that encourages the people of Thornaby to get active and improve their health. What North Star have achieved is amazing and we are glad to be a part of it.”
