Summer of fun!
Stockton’s Youth Services (Youth Direction) have just completed one of their most successful summer programmes that culminated in a Bell boating Regatta at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre.
Teams of young people from a range of organisations such as HYPE, Family Support Workers, Targeted Youth Support, Preventions Primary and Secondary, the Roseworth Offer and Eastern Ravens competed against each in a competitive but friendly regatta. The day was a massive success with participants and their families who came down to the barrage to support the youngsters on the water.
Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Fun team events like this are a great way of bringing people together, especially when they have a competitive edge!
“The Tees Barrage offers so many wonderful activities and it’s nice to hear that local families came along to support the young people taking part.”
Youth Direction has developed an attractive and varied programme over the summer period which included the very popular YAZ on Ice event which attracted over 225 youngsters to the Billingham Forum Ice Arena, youngster also attended team building events, kayaking courses and even had a powerboat experience on the River Tees at the Barrage and participated in full day activity sessions at Billingham Forum.
Virginia McCallum, Positive Activity Worker said ” The Bell boat Regatta a was a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to safely experience the River Tees first hand and it was great to see families coming down to support their children. The Youth Direction programme this summer has enabled us to engage with and build skills of the youngsters in the borough.”
