Lucy on Trial
Lucy Gardener starts her 2013 paddling season at Nottingham’s Holme Pierrepoint Water sports Centre this week as she is part of the Great Britain Paracanoeing Development Squad who are attending time trials and an intensive 4 day training camp as the selection process for this years European and World Championships.
Lucy will be involved in the time trial over 200m for the K1 and V1 categories and will then spend approximately 5 hours per day on the water as she is put through her paces by the Great Britain coaching staff. She will also be tested in the gym as the effectiveness of her winter training is tested.
If Lucy is successful she will be taking part in her first competitive regatta of the season in April where she hopes to secure a place in the team that will compete at the World Championships in May in Hungary and the European Championships to be staged in Portugal the following month.
Lucy who is a member of Tees Active Sports Academy and is based at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre said “I have been training hard throughout the winter on the water and also working on my strength and conditioning in the Academy room at Billingham Forum. It will be great to be competing again and although the competition for places on the team is tough this year, I and will be hoping for calm conditions on the water which will help me produce some fast times.”
