How long should you go to the gym for?
This is a perfectly reasonable question. The answer varies per person; however there is a general rule…
A study by Livestrong.com stated that exercising for at least 45 minutes could help you lose 4 pounds per month. The government recommends at least 30 minutes of exercise per day as a minimum to maintain a healthy lifestyle, so you can argue that there is some logic to the Livestrong claim that you should do a little more to lose weight.
If you’re new to the gym, that might be a little daunting to exercise for this long. Well to help take your mind off it, all Activ8 gyms have entertainment screens on the cardio equipment, so you can watch a bit of TV whilst you work out. Heading to the gym straight from work? Catch a bit of Pointless or Bradley Walsh on The Chase when you’re on the bike or cross-trainer. You will certainly be getting more out of it then if you were sat watching it on the sofa.
Don’t forget that Activ8 Advisors are on hand in all of our venues too if you need help or advice. Ask for an exercise programme of personal trainer if you need that extra motivation.
The general rule for how long you should be at the gym for is this:
If Pointless is still on, you haven’t been there long enough!
