Amy Hits the Heights in Switzerland
Teesside has its newest World Champion in Amy Carr who, as part of the Great Britain Para Athletic team, competed at the World Junior Para Athletics Championships in Nottwil Switzerland. This talented teenager was competing in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump and won gold in the Long Jump and 200m and picked up a bronze medal in the 100m.
Amy, a member of Tees Active Sports Academy and Middlesbrough Athletic Club was delighted with her medal haul and her new World Champion status and said “The hard work that I have put in through the winter and the past few years really paid off. The 200m was an extremely close race and it was definitely a grit your teeth time in the last 50 metres. The whole experience in Switzerland has been great and has only given me an appetite to train harder and experience these types of championships on a regular basis,”
Amy will take a few days off and then will be back in training as she gets ready to compete at the UK School Games in Loughborough in early September. Amy will then be off to start her studies at York St John University in the autumn but she will be training hard as her target for 2018 is the Commonwealth Games which will be held on the Gold Coast in Australia.
