Academy Stars Shine at BUCS Championships
Tees Barrage International White Water Course was the venue for the British Universities and Colleges Slalom kayaking championships last weekend. Over 200 paddlers from 27 universities around Britain braved horrendous weather conditions to test their skills and resilience on the tough Tees Barrage course.
Two paddlers from Tees Active Sports Academy produced excellent performances; Zac Allin representing the University of East London gaining a 4th position in the K1 class on Saturday and a 5th position in the C1 class on Sunday.
Bethan Kelly representing Durham University in the team competition on Saturday gained a hard won 3rd place alongside her University teammates, Molly Agar and Chloe Ellerton.
On Sunday in the K1 class, Bethan, from Hartlepool, also put in a fantastic first run and gained an individual 5th place.
Bethan said” This is my first year at Durham where I am studying History and between studies my training this winter has been going well. In difficult conditions I was pleased to contribute to Durham’s overall team performance, I am really looking forward to the Premier League Slalom season which starts in April.”
