SWIM THE TEES UPDATE!
Hello Swim the Tees competitors!
I hope everyone is well!
The Swim the Tees challenge is well underway now and you should be well on your way down the river! I hope you are all enjoying yourselves and feeling the benefits of the challenge.
Swimming is a fantastic source of exercise. It is unique to so many forms of exercise in that all of the body’s muscles are working to help propel you through the water. If you compare swimming to running, the main muscles working are in your legs and hips. In swimming your arms, shoulders and back are heavily involved too. Also, running puts a lot of stress upon your knees and shins. Water can hold up to 90% of your body weight because it is 800 times denser than air. Therefore you are putting less stress upon your joints as well as having a good work out.
If you are taking part in the challenge at Stockton Splash, could I please draw your attention to the new SwimFit board, pictured below.
You are now free to collect a SwimFit Activate card from the board before your swim. The cards give you different tasks and challenges as you are performing your lane swim with some added motivation, just in case you weren’t already! Why not try one next time you are in? Please remember though, if you do take a card you need to return it to the board when you have finished with it. Alternatively you could try one of out instructor lead SwimFit sessions on a Tuesday and Friday 12:15pm until 12:45pm. The instructor lead sessions will return next week (Tuesday 25th February). For a preview of a SwimFit instructor led session follow the link below:
Remember, if you are collecting sponsor money, all money must be collected at your venue no later than the 27th April 2014.
I wish you all the very best as you continue your challenge down the Tees. The Riverside is almost in sight!
