Swimmers Spring into Action
The Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme held its spring gala at the Billingham Forum on Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd of May. 13 clubs some local and some not so local took part in what turned out to be a very fast and successful competition.
BOSSS Swimmers from all squads took part in the competition giving good performances and taking large chunks of personal best times. In total BOSSS had posted 349 new life time best’s and picked up 84 gold medals throughout the weekend.
The competition served dual purpose with some older swimmers taking part in the regional swimming championships in Sunderland next weekend. For them the meet held a chance to race short course practicing race tactics and skills before taking on the best swimmers in the North East.
For the Age group swimmers 11-14 year olds the competition was the last chance for achieving qualifying times for the Age group Regionals held in Sheffield. These swimmers really managed to step up and perform at a great level for the full weekend. 17 swimmers managed to get there first qualifying time of the season or achieve additional times for the upcoming meet.
BOSSS swimmers are performing extremely well this season across all ages and standards within the club. Recently 2 swimmers competed at the British Championship at the London Olympic pool both making finals. At a junior level Bosss swimmers competing as Stockton are top of division 1 in the team competition. This year Bosss will be represented by 30 swimmers (10 Youth + 20 Age Group) at the North East regional championships.
Head Coach of the scheme Chris Leighton said “It’s great to see so many swimmers representing the club at the upcoming championships. Just shows what strides forward the club have made in the last couple of years”.
The competition ran extremely smoothly, a huge thank you must go to all volunteers, parents, swimmers and sponsors who helped make it the success it was.
