Stars Tournament a Glittering Success
Billingham Forum staged their first junior ice hockey tournament in over 20 years. The tournament organised by the Billingham Stars Ice Hockey Club attracted teams from Solihull, Sheffield, Sutton on Ashfield and Whitley Bay,
The combined Under 12 and Under 14 tournament produced some high octane action with the Billingham Stars under 12 team beating Sutton Sting in the final to be crowned champions. The Stars U14 team were beaten in the semi-final by Solihull Junior Barons. The Barons eventually lost out 2-0 in the final to Sutton Sting.
The Stars also had James Hellens, Ethan Hehir, Callum Wilkinson, Stuart Jackson and Dylan Hehir five players who were selected for the tournaments all-stars team, with Ethan Hehir and Callum Wilkinson being selected as the tournament’s Most Valuable Players at Under 14 and Under 12 respectively
Brian McCabe from Billingham Stars said “The tournament has been hailed as a complete success by all who took part. Billingham Ice Hockey are delighted with the response from the participating teams who all thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, a collaboration between Billingham Ice Hockey and Tees Active, sponsored by LJJ Mechanical and Electrical Contractors, based in Stockton-On-Tees, whose assistance made the event possible. Hopefully this will become an annual event which will grow to be the junior ice hockey tournament everyone wants to compete in. The Under 16 and Under 18 tournament is scheduled for the weekend of June 28th and 29th.”
