Mary Makes Euro Finals
Billingham youngster Mary Johnson (rider 110 pictured in above image) has returned to Teesside after competing at the European BMX Championships that were staged in Dessel, Belgium.13 year old Mary a member of the North East BMX Club and Tees Active Sports Academy was competing in the 24” Cruiser and 20” BMX classes.
With over 1900 riders entered in all age groups this is one of the biggest events of its type and Mary a pupil at Northfield School in Billingham was competed against some of the most talented riders in Europe. After battling her way through 6 qualifying heats and semi finals she made it through to 2 European Championships finals where she finished 6th in each final.
Mary who is currently ranked number 2 in the country in her age group said” I am delighted with my performance at the Europeans. The whole event with the atmosphere created big crowds was absolutely great.I was definitely motivated to ride well and hopefully can improve next year.”
Marys father Allan said “ We are really proud of Marys performance and it is reward for the hard work she has been putting in throughout the season.”
With the increasing popularity of this exciting sport and the increased number of participants and tracks throughout the country Mary is definitely a rider to keep an eye on for the future.
