Forum At Fifty Film Launch
North East leisure trust Tees Active has recently celebrated the Golden Anniversary of the iconic leisure centre Billingham Forum, marking 50 years since it was opened by HRH Queen Elizabeth II in October 1967.
The occasion was marked with a week long of events which customers and well-wishers were free to take part in. Performances by the Bread & Butter Company and Darlington based Cool Science Party amongst some of the guest appearances as well as special events on the ice arena and new climbing attraction GoClimb was also well attended.
A special film commissioned by Stockton Borough Council and Tees Active was also unveiled during the celebratory week, featuring clips of the original opening ceremony in 1967 with Queen Elizabeth II. The short film looks back at the history of ‘The Forum’ and chats to long serving customers. One intriguing interview explains how one lady’s letter to the Queen stopped The Forum from closing down all together.
