Billingham Forum Hosts First Wedding on Ice
Selecting a venue to celebrate the renewal of your wedding vows will take you back to all those special places you’ve shared with your partner over the years and an ice rink might seem like an unlikely contender to most. For Michael and Carolyn Duffy however, it was as easy as the decision to tie the knot in the first place.
The couple first met in 1993 playing Ice Hockey at Billingham Forum ice Arena before joining hands in marriage on 11th May 1996. This Saturday they will return to the centre of Billingham Forum ice rink where it all began to renew their vows in front of an adoring crowd of close friends and family, including their four children Hannah 18, Patrick 17, Joshua 8 and Ava 6.
Carolyn, a student nurse at Teesside University said, “We have been preparing for Saturday for well over a year and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of the following people Anne Restall, Natalie Swann, Graeme Harrison, Mark Lavender, Peter Johnson, Tony Boynton, Edward Hammond, Cory Roberts, Sarah Pearson and Les Pearson. We want to thank them all so much, we can’t wait!”
Anne Restall, Deputy Manager at Billingham Forum said, “I have known the couple for many years and wish them both a huge congratulations, it’s great to see them returning to the place they first met all those years ago to celebrate twenty years of happiness together. It’s sure to be a great day”.
Michael, an ex-council worker, has been playing Ice Hockey since the tender age of 7 and his love for the sport has continued right through his life to the present day. After suffering a stroke at the age of 40 Michael was forced to take some time out from Ice Hockey but is now finding his feet again playing for Cleveland Comets.
Following on from a figure skating performance the celebration will be rounded off in the only way it could be, a summer cup match between Cleveland Comets and Durham Dragons.
