Billingham East Health Fayre
Around 300 people were treated to an extravaganza of activities on Saturday August 1st as the Billingham East Health Fayre came to Bede College in Billingham. The event, funded by Stockton Public Health, aimed to promote every aspect of living a healthy lifestyle.
The event, which was held between 11-3pm at SRC Sports Centre at Bede College on Marsh House Avenue in Billingham, allowed visitors to try their hand at a whole host of activities absolutely free. Life saving advice and demonstrations were on offer from first aid demonstrations, mini coached activities as well as giving helpful information from Cancer Research UK, Healthy Heart Check and Teesside Injury Sports Centre.
One of the main attractions was the live interactive cooking sessions by Little Sprouts displaying healthy cooking techniques and allowing visitors to try their hand at cooking and tasting their creations. A healthy pot noodle was on the menu as well as biscuit decorations which opened up children and parents eyes for getting more creative and healthier in the kitchen.
There were also ideas for exciting children games by More Life, as well as an army assault course provided by the Yorkshire regiment. The sports centre climbing wall was also utilised and proved to be very popular for all ages. A variety of inflatable attractions were also available including a Grand national style space-hopper race and a laser quest arena.
Billingham East Ward Councillor Evaline Cunningham said,” The feedback we have received from families who attended the Health Fayre has been extremely positive and the event has given everybody the opportunity to be active and receive advice on how to live a healthier and have fun. The variety of activities and interactive attractions ensured families were fully engaged for several hours which was great to see.”
Kerry Swan from Billingham who attended the event with her son Ollyver said *What a fantastic event to encourage families to get active and stress the importance of healthy eating. Ollyver and his friends really enjoyed the day and has experienced some activities that he has never tried before.”
