Badminton Hopes to be a Hit
Badminton England and Tees Active are working in partnership to make Teesside a hotbed for badminton. Not only is Thornaby Pavilion a Regional Performance Centre for the best players in the region but now Thornaby Pavilion and Billingham Forum are to be the venues for some FREE taster sessions during the school holidays which will enable participants aged 8 – 16 to be coached by a qualified Badminton England coach to learn the skills of the game.
The sessions will be held on Thursday 21st February 10-11am and 11-12 noon at Billingham Forum and 1-2pm and 2-3pm at Thornaby Pavilion. Sam Moore, North East Regional Badminton coach who will be delivering the sessions said “The sessions are designed to introduce participants to the game in a fun and enjoyable way whilst learning some of the fundamental shots and skills. Our long term aim is to have as many people playing badminton on a regular basis and these types of sessions are an ideal way to introduce and signpost children to the numerous opportunities to play badminton on Teesside.”
Allan McDermott, Tees Active Sports Academy manager said “Tees Active are delighted to have formed such a productive partnership with Badminton England and are delighted to host these sessions which hopefully will introduce to the nations number one racket sport.”
