Tigers Trio Tackle the Thames
The first competition of the Division 1 Slalom kayaker season went well for 3 young Teesside paddlers as they returned from the River Thames where they had competed over 2 days in Shepperton.
Fourteen year old Carys Grey Thompson posted an 11th place on the race on Saturday whilst improving to 5th position on her Sunday races. Thirteen year old Katie Bainbridge showed equally good form with a 6th and a 4th place.
Jake Brown has really started the 2016 season with a bang as he posted 2 second place finishes, which means he has had a fantastic start to achieve his goal of gaining promotion to the Premier division.
All 3 paddlers are members of Tees Tigers Canoe Club and Tees Active Sports Academy and have been working hard both on and off the water over the winter off season.
A delighted Jake said “The weekend has gone really well and is a great confidence booster for the rest of the season, with my ultimate goal for 2016 being to gain promotion to the Premier division .All the Tigers have been training hard over the winter and we will be heading to Llandysul in Wales next weekend to compete and then we will be heading north to Tully in Scotland over the Easter period so hopefully we can maintain our good starts to the season.
