This year’s regional age group competition was held over 2 weekends at the Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield. The Borough of Stockton had 23 qualifier’s the most of any club in Northumberland and Durham.
The North East championships is one of the toughest regionals in the country pitting swimmers of BOSSS against the best of big Yorkshire clubs, City of Leeds, City of Sheffield, Borough of Kirklees as well as a host of other top programmes.
All swimmers taking part in the competition swam extremely well with some big long course personal best times in which for some were the first time they had competed at the higher level.
Weekend 1 a total of 20 Final’s with an additional top 10 finish for Melody Jones in the 800 Free. BOSSS swimmers brought back 2 medals, Bronze for Christa Wilson in the 200 Fly and Silver for Laura McCluskey in the 200 Free. There was also a number of 4th and 5th place finishes with swimmers just missing out on making the podium.
Weekend 2 was even more successful with 26 finals and 5 medals. Bronze medals for Christa Wilson (100 Fly), Arthur Llewellyn (50 Fly), Will Ellis (50 Back), Laura McCluskey (400Free). With one of the last races of the competition Laura produced a great swim to win Gold and the regional title in the 200 Individual Medley.
This year’s competition was a great success. The swimmers are improving pretty much every time they race. It is really good to see so many athletes stepping up in the big competitions and proving the hard work in training is really paying off.
