Free Pickleball Sessions at Thornaby Pavilion This March

People across Stockton-on-Tees will have the chance to try one of the fastest‑growing sports in the UK this March, as Tees Active launches a series of free enthusiast‑led Pickleball taster sessions at Thornaby Pavilion.

Running every Monday from 10am–12pm and every Wednesday from 6pm–8pm, these friendly and informal sessions are designed to help people of all ages and abilities learn the basics of the game in a relaxed, supportive environment. There’s no need to book, all equipment is provided, and whether you come alone or bring a friend, everyone is welcome.

Pickleball is known for being low‑impact, easy to pick up, and highly social, making it a great way to stay active, meet new people, and try something different. The free March programme aims to give as many people as possible the chance to experience this inclusive sport first‑hand.

Benefits of Pickleball

 

Pickleball is a fun sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. Played both indoor or outdoor on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a hollow perforated polymer ball over a net.

Pickleball is a sport for ALL ages and abilities.  Intergenerational play or play within similar age/skill groups.

Paul Bambrough, Assistant Manager at Thornaby Pavilion, said: “Tees Active are excited to be able to offer the opportunity of free Pickleball taster sessions as part of our March Madness offer. The sessions will enable individuals to discover the rules and basics of the game in a social atmosphere. All equipment will be provided all you need is a sense of fun. Hopefully, people will leave the sessions with a smile on their face and you never know may of made new friends.”

The taster sessions are delivered by enthusiastic, experienced players of the game who will guide participants through the fundamentals and help build confidence on the court. With no specialist kit required and no prior experience needed, the sessions are an ideal introduction for complete beginners as well as those looking to play with new people.

The sessions take place at Thornaby Pavilion, and run throughout March:

  • Mondays: 10am–12pm
  • Wednesdays: 6pm–8pm
    No booking required, just turn up and play.
