Do we have to wear a face covering?
From 19th July face coverings/masks are optional across all Tees Active venues. We do ask that you are mindful of other visitors and our staff who decide to wear their covering/mask.
How are you protecting both members and staff?
We are continuing with many of our additional safety measures to ensure everyone can enjoy a swimming experience at all of our pools. This includes enhanced cleaning regimes, managing session capacities and encouraging frequent sanitising of hands and equipment whilst in the venues. You will also be met by our concierge to manage the flow of visitors arriving at our centres.
Do swim sessions need to be booked online?
From Monday 19th July you will still be able to pre-book swim sessions through our online booking platform, however walk-ins will also be accepted subject to availability.
Session spaces will still be limited, although spaces have been increased at all pools. To avoid disappointment we recommend booking online in advance here.
If you have pre-booked a space and are unable to attend, your space must be cancelled in advance to free up this space for others, otherwise a nominal fee will be charged.
Can children swim alone?
From Monday 19th July, we are reverting to our normal admissions policy regarding children swimming. This means that children under the age of 8 must be accompanied in the pool by an adult at a ratio of no more than 1 adult per 2 children, children aged 8 – 10 must have an adult present in the venue when swimming alone and children aged 10+ can swim alone without an adult present in the venue.
All junior spaces will need to be booked and paid for in advance by calling or visiting the relevant venue. Junior sessions cannot be booked online unless a parent is also attending.

How do I book swimming online?
You can book swimming online through our online booking platform here.
If you have already created an online booking account, simply log in, choose your venue and session. Using the filters are a great way to find the sessions you want.
When initially joining online there are two options available:
- I’m a member but need to create an online account – you should choose this option if you are currently, or have ever been, an Activ8 member or held a Tees Active leisure card. You must use the email address used when you joined. You will already be on the system and we will be unable to link to you account if you do not choose this option.
- I’m new and would like to sign up – You should choose this option if you have never been a member with Tees Active before.
Members can book up to 8 days in advance, non-members 7 days.

How long are swim sessions?
At the moment, swim sessions are still limited to 1 hour.
What if I am unable to book at the times I want to visit?
Unfortunately if all of the spaces in a session have been booked you will not be able to attend this session. We have a limited amount of spaces for each session and recommend booking in advance if there is a particular time you want to visit, especially if this is during peak times or specialist sessions.
You will also be able to hover over sessions on the swimming timetable to view the remaining spaces for each session, allowing the opportunity to book at a time when numbers are lower if you wish.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring a towel and other such items you usually require during and after swimming. We ask that you come with your swimming costume under your clothes to reduce time spent in the changing rooms.
If you booked online, please bring relevant proof of your booking and also your membership card/band. The e-mail confirmation on your phone will be sufficient.
Bring any equipment/aids with you and ensure it is clean and identifiable as yours before you arrive.
What is the capacity of people allowed in the swimming pools?
Capacities vary across each swimming pool and will be reviewed continually to ensure maximum safety for visitors.
Are there any changes to car parking at any of the venues?
Where venues have car parking fees, please use cashless payments when possible, you will need to pay fees by following the instructions displayed.
Parking at Billingham Forum and Thornaby Pavilion remains the same and please ensure you take note of the time restrictions in place for free parking where relevant.
At Stockton Splash the parking payment stations are still not taking cash payments so please pay following the instructions.
What do I do when I arrive at the venue?
We ask that you arrive on time but no sooner than 5 minutes before your session starts and check in with the venue reception team when you arrive. There will be short periods of time you will have to wait outside of the venue, so please come prepared for this. Please follow the signage and systems in place to get to the changing facilities and pool side.
Each swimming session has been allocated a period of time which includes time taken to enter the facility and time taken to get changed.
Follow all guidance given by staff and follow the new policies and procedures which have been put in place for your safety.
When you arrive, please sanitize your hands using the stations provided and continue to do so whilst with us.
Are all lockers, showers and changing facilities back open?
From Monday 19th July, more lockers, showers and changing facilities will be opened throughout our venues.
We are asking customers to shower at home whenever possible to limit time spent in the changing rooms and helping maintain water quality.
Lockers will no longer be free to use. At Splash you will be required to purchase a locker key from reception when you check in for your swim and return your locker key to refund your £1 deposit.
We ask that visitors be mindful of one another when using these facilities.
Are there entry systems in place?
In the changing areas there are clearly marked one-way systems in place to allow safe and easy access and egress to/from the pool. Please adhere be mindful of others when walking to or waiting on poolside.
Do I need to arrive wearing my costume under my clothes?
We are asking all customers to arrive ready to swim wherever possible. Not only does this mean quicker entry into the session for you but reduces the risk of the virus in our venues.
Can I only come swimming with my bubble/household?
From 19th July you can attend any swim sessions with multiple households.
Can I come and watch as my family swim?
From Monday 19th July spectators will be permitted across all pools, however spaces will be limited and spectators must be mindful of others and keep their distance from one another.
What happens if the Lifeguards are needed?
Lifeguards will continue to supervise the swimming pool in the usual way while maintaining social distancing. In the event of having to complete a rescue or administer first aid, all lifeguards have been provided with personnel protective equipment and fully trained.
What are the new procedures of lane swimming?
Always attempt to maintain appropriate social distance between yourself and another swimmer.
Please do not overtake whilst swimming.
Before pushing off at each turn, check to see if anyone faster is approaching and where possible allow them to overtake.
Choose your lane using the fast, medium and easy swim signs and by watching those already swimming. Be prepared to change lanes on other users ability and maintain the maximum number per lane.
Whether stopping for a rest or catching your breath after completing your swim, please be mindful that others using the lanes will want to keep on swimming without stopping: so keep yourself to the edge of the lane allowing others to turn at the wall, turning your head away and allowing others to maintain social distancing measures.
Are the flumes, waves and float sessions running?
Waves and flumes are already available during Big Splash sessions. Fun float sessions are back on a Monday 18:30 – 19:30 at Splash. We recommend booking in advance for these sessions.
Can we bring personal items into the pools?
From 19th July personal items are permitted in our pools however all personal items must be checked with reception when checking in for your session.
If you are seen to be using these items inappropriately you may be asked by our lifeguards to remove it from the pool until you have finished your session.
Are the water fountains open?
Water fountains are currently out of use but will reopen soon. We ask that you stay hydrated by bringing your own ‘pre filled’ water bottle on to the poolside during your swim.
Will you be selling swimming aids/costumes?
From 19th July our swim retail returns and you will have the opportunity to purchase a number of swimming related items in our venues including goggles, swimming costumes and floatation devices.
