Talented Teessider Beth Bryan is definitely on a high after making her international Great Britain debut at the Munich Junior International Regatta and then returning home to Stockton with a gold medal.
Beth a member of Tees Rowing Club and Tees Active Sports Academy was part of the victorious women’s quadruple sculls. The team which consisted of Beth, Lucy Burgess, Ellen Thomas and Katie Bartlett were competing against teams from Poland, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Finland and Germany in the final. After trailing the Polish boat by as much as 3 seconds with 500m to go the British crew over hauled their rivals to take the gold.
Beth who is coached by James Harris and is part of the Siemens World Class Start programme said “The whole experience in Germany was fantastic and the race itself was really exciting with the Polish team still leading with only 250 m to go it was a great to storm past them. This has made the hard training on the River Tees through the winter months all worthwhile.”
18 year old Beth has another reason to celebrate as she has been shortlisted for the Evening Gazette Future Stars Award and will be attending the award ceremony next week. Although this talented teenager has no time to ease off with her training as she prepares for the National Schools Regatta at the end of the month and the final trial in June for selection for the British team to compete at the World Junior Rowing Championships.
