Wrestling Club in Medal Haul

 

Stockton Sports Centre played host to the English Junior Wrestling Championships sponsored by Tees Active last weekend with over 140 wrestlers from all over the country competing. Tom Denham and Marcus Sudron who are members of the Stockton Wrestling Club and Tees Active Sports Academy won a Gold and Silver medal respectively.

But 9 year olds William Scott and Tamara Smith also from the Stockton Club both won Bronze medals Tamara winning hers in the 36kg category and William who was fighting in his first competition in the 50kg category.

Bout 114 year old Marcus was unlucky to be pipped to the Gold medal in the 59kg category by his arch rival Tony McKenna from the Denny Club.16 year old Tom brought home the Gold to Stockton in the 80kg category after an impressive days wrestling and nudging Dean Sobutta from the Aspall Club into silver position.

Paul Wilkinson, Assistant Manger at Stockton Sports Centre said” The English Junior Wrestling Championships was yet again a great success for everyone involved. The event has created interest in the sport and children can take advantage of Tees Actives Sporting Start programme during the school holidays when we are running some FREE Olympic Wrestling come and try sessions for children over the age of 6. The day was made complete with the fantastic performances of the members of the Stockton Wrestling Club which is based here at Stockton Sports Centre.”
