Members of Tees Active Sports Academy along with fitness fanatics in Teesside are taking advantage of a fantastic new Activ8 gym which has opened at Thornaby Pavilion this week.

Andrew Winspear and Irmina Reithmair from the Academy who both live in near by Ingleby Barwick are now able to supplement their specific sports  training with strength and conditioning sessions at this state of the art gym.

Andrew on FitballAndrew is currently training exceptionally hard as he has been selected for the English Schools swimming team which will be competing against the home nations in early March and at the end of March he will be competing at the Olympic trials.

Both Irmina and Andrew were impressed with the spacious 70 station gym which has 40 cardio vascular machines, 30 resistance stations and a comprehensive free weight area. Andrew was particularly impressed with the ‘Radiant’ which is a machine that will allow him to replicate some of the movements he uses in the pool.Irmina with hand weights

2005 Bavarian figure skating champion Irmina is currently recovering from an injured ankle so the gym will help her with her rehabilitation whilst also being able to work her muscle groups that are not affected by her injury.

Irmina said “The gym at the Pavilion is only a 4 minute car journey from my house so it will save me travelling up the A19 to the gym at Billingham Forum. The gym here is exceptionally well equipped and the design makes it a really pleasant training environment.”
