While Teesside is in deep depression with the demise of the Boro, some of Teesside’s footballing pride has been restored by Billingham Town Under 11’s .They have just returned from a nationwide football competition with silverware after winning The Spring Festival of Football Tournament .

The team who all attend the Billingham Forum Soccer School have been playing together for the last 3 years in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance, attended the tournament which was held over 3 days in Skegness.

The Under 11 category consisted of 18 teams from all over the UK and the boys from Billingham battled through their group competition winning 3 games drawing one and losing one.

In the semi finals the boys overcame Hexham 2-1 and in a tense and tight final against Bedworth Eagles from Coventry, the 2 teams could not be separated and even after extra time the score remained 0-0.

A nail biting penalty competition ended with the Billingham team and supporters going delirious when Joe Adair coolly converted the final penalty to ensure a 4-3 win.

A delighted Billingham manager Lee Shackleton said “I am really pleased for all the boys and the parents, the whole tournament has been a special experience and the lads have produced some excellent football. We have had a tough season and this will give us confidence when we start training for the new season”

UEFA B licence coach at Billingham Forum Allan McDermott said “The boys have been training at the Forum since they were 5 so to win such a prestigious tournament is a great reward for all their hard work”
