Tom Tackles Army Test

 

Tom Kill with BallWhile most of his school friends were relaxing and enjoying their Easter Holidays, thirteen-year-old Tees Active Sport Academy ace Tom Kill was being put through his paces by the British Army.

Tom who is a member of the Newcastle Falcons Development Scheme and plays for Billingham Rugby Club Under 13’s was one of 50 young rugby stars from Premiership rugby clubs who attended a gruelling 5 day training camp at the Queen Elizabeth Army barracks in Strensall , York.

Tom, not only hd to undergo 5 hours rugby training per day but had to take part in character and team building exercises that included completing assault courses, paintball competitions, shooting live rounds on the rifle range and survival training.

Senior players from Premiership clubs such as Sale Sharks, Leeds Tykes and Newcastle Falcons attended various sessions and passed on invaluable tips to these young rugby stars.

Tom said “The five days at the camp has not only been beneficial for my rugby but has given me a valuable insight into army life. At the moment I am shattered and I am looking forward to a few days rest”

Tom is now relaxing before playing in the County Cup Final for the unbeaten Billingham Under 13’s against Darlington on Tuesday 25th April at Stockton Rugby Club. Once the rugby season is over this talented youngster will be jumping straight into into his athletics training, as Tom is also a highly gifted sprinter and high jumper.
