There’s something about Mary
Billingham youngster Mary Johnson is definitely making an impression in the fast and furious Olympic sport of BMX racing. 11 year old Mary a member of the North East BMX club and Tees Active Sports Academy has just returned from Mansfield where she was competing in the Midland Summer Series where after winning all 3 qualifying races she continued her good form by taking the gold in the final.
Mary a pupil at Priors Mill School in Billingham was using the race as a warm for the BMX National Series in which she finished third in the country last year and took second in the British Championships.
This talented youngster will start her National Series season in May when she will be competing in Peterborough but she is exciting about the prospect of competing in the UEC European Championships in June which are to the held in Birmingham where she will be competing against the best racers in Europe.
Marys father Allan said “Mary is really looking forward to the new season and in particular competing at the European Championships. The win in Mansfield is a great confidence booster as Mary has been working hard through the winter as she regular attends junior spinning classes at the Activ8 Billingham Belasis gym which has helped with her conditioning.
With the increasing popularity of the sport and the increased number of participants and tracks throughout the country Mary is definitely a rider to keep an eye on for the future.
