The athletes and parents of Tees Active Sports Academy were treated to a culinary master class from celebrity chef Mark Earnden at Billingham Forum this week.

A correct diet is essential to compete at the highest level and the session had been organised by the Academy to give a practical and interactive lesson on how to prepare and cook a nutritional and tasty dish. The athletes not only tried their hand at cooking but were also encouraged to taste different foods and use an assortment of spices to flavour their food.

Dave, assisted by 18 year old figure skater Michael Kerr Chicken Tikka Masala, while vegetarian athlete Chloe Loredo prepared a vegetarian dish of macaroni and roasted vegetables and .

Mark said “It is important that top class athletes have a wide range of cooking skills to prepare a tasty and nutritious meal. Some of the athletes today have been introduced to ingredients that they have never tasted and this is the ideal opportunity to sample them”

Allan McDermott, Tees Active Sports Academy manager said “Mark’s session was entertaining and fun and everybody really enjoyed themselves. We have set a challenge to the Academy athletes and their parents to prepare and cook at least one of the dishes before the end of half term holiday.”
