Finalists Italy Vs Norway

There were definitely no thunderstorms or cloud bursts, but plenty of lightning strikes at the Stockton Primary Schools European Championships staged at Thornaby Pavilion this week

The competition organised by Tees Actives Yong Persons Active Health Team and sponsored by North Tees Primary Care Trust involved 16 teams from primary schools in Stockton, Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick. Young players chasing the ball

All 10 schools that competed were given a European country to represent and the teams were divided into 2 leagues with the top 4 teams from each group qualifying for the knock out section of the competition

Harry Savage winner of keepy up competitionIn addition to the main event the Tees Active ‘Keepy Up Competition’ also proved to be a great success with 9 year old Harry Savage from Tilery school taking the title of Keepy Up King with a fantastic total of 29.

The third place play-off was between local rivals Switzerland (Whitehouse Primary School) and Portugal (St Marks Primary School) with St Marks taking the honours winning 4-2,

The final saw Italy(Tilery Primary School) play Norway (Barley Fields Primary School) and in a keenly contested game Italy (Tilery Primary School) ended up taking the title as they won the game 5-2.

The biggest cheer of the day was when Ingrid Ablett-Spence, Health Improvement Manager of North Tees PCT presented captain of Italy Harry Savage with the magnificent trophy.
