Talented young local athletes will be given a helping hand in their quest to realise their sporting talent
An exciting new initiative introduced by Tees Active Ltd has seen the formation of the Tees Active Sports Academy. The Academy will offer access to training facilities within the Active Life Centres, sports science and sports therapy support.
The Academy was officially launched on Tuesday 7th March at Billingham Forum with over 100 invited guests being introduced to some of the most talented youngsters in the area
The initial 27 athletes who have been inducted into the Academy have been selected from sports such as Biathlon, Athletics, Netball, Swimming, Lifesaving, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey, Badminton, .Kayaking and Olympic Wrestling. Steve Chaytor, Managing Director of Tees Active Ltd said, "The launch of the Academy will help aspiring and talented performers across all sports and it will help them to develop in their home area"
Eleven times Paralympics gold medallist Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson has given her full support by becoming Academy Champion. Tanni who left a filmed message before she left for Australia to compete in the Commonwealth Games said, "I fully support this exciting initiative which I believe will make a big difference in producing our future champions"
