Teessiders in Triple Triumph



Three youngsters from Teesside put in outstanding performances at the recent North East Schools Biathlon Championships held in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Christopher Wilkinson, Bradley Dixon and RachelBrad Dixon and Chris Wilkinson Gray all 15 years of age and members of Tees Active Sports Academy produced superb performances in the year 11 races. Chris who attends Sacred Heart RC School in Redcar and swims for Billingham Amateur Swimming Club won the boys race amassing a total score of 1241 points, Chris also produced the fastest swim of the day in the 100m with a time of 0:55.97. His Billingham team-mate Bradley who attends Northfield School was hot on Chris’s heels taking second place with a points total of 1230 points.

Rachel a pupil at Egglescliffe School and a member of the Borough of Stockton Swimming Scheme took the top honours in the girl’s competition with a points total of 1185 points. Rachel time of 1:01.55 was the fastest swim time in the girls competition.

Rachel GrayThe Biathlon consists of a 100m swim and 1000m run with times from each discipline equating to points. The winner is the individual with the highest combined points total.

Chris, Bradley and Rachel have now qualified for the British Schools Biathlon Championships at the University of Bath in February next year where Chris will defend his national title.

Modest Chris said, “I am now training hard for the nationals and I hope to have a good shot of retaining my title but I know I will be facing tough opposition from Brad”.
