Teesside Swimming Talent arrives at the Olympics

 

Two members of the Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme arrived at their pre-games camp in Japan this week ahead of the forthcoming Beijing Olympic’s. Swimming sensation, Jemma Lowe who is competing in the 100m and 200m buttefly was joined by head coach Graeme Antwhistle.
The pair who are usually based at Stockton’s Active Life Centre, Splash travelled across eight time zones to get to their training camp.
Graeme who regularly coaches local talent, is attending as part of the Great Britain coaching team and will be looking to develop Jemma to her full potential.Part of a core team that support the athletes, Graeme will be offering coaching, psychology, sports science and nutrition advice.
The holding camp in Osaka will become home for ten days whilst the pair put the final touches to their preparations as well as acclimastising to the humid conditions.
Graeme said “ I am looking forward to my first experience working as part of the senior coaching team. This will be a great platform for developing my career further”.
In 2006 Graeme was selected to become part of the ‘Elite Coach’ programme which is designed to accelerate the development of coaches with the potential to be the driving force behind home medal success in the Olympic’s.
They leave for Beijing on August 5th so fingers crossed for medal success from our Teesside talent.
