The championships were the climax of a process which saw hundreds of Primary School children throughout the Tees Valley area compete in area Swimming Festivals, to earn the right to compete in their area final.

The Championship gala saw the winners from these area finals come together to compete against each other to earn the title ‘Fastest Swimmer in the Tees Valley’.

Over 40 boys and girls from year 5 & 6 represented the different areas of Stockton, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland in some 22 individual or team events. No overall trophy was awarded but swimmers representing Stockton did extremely well winning nine out of the twelve individual events.

Tees Active Swimming Development Manager, Carol Grainger said, “It was great to see such a large event bringing together school children from across the Tees Valley region to compete against one another. I can only wish that the event increases in success, and you never know we could have been watching a future budding Olympian”.
