Tees Active Down To A Tee

THE Tees Active Junior Open provided an opportunity for local youngsters to show their golfing potential recently at Billingham Golf Club. An eighteen-hole, annual golf competition, entries were encouraged from those aged seven to twenty-one, both males and females.
Despite overcast and blustery weather conditions early in the day, forty-three youngsters participated and were rewarded with the sun emerging later.
There were several competition categories including best gross and net scores overall, best gross and net scores from females, handicap categories 0 to 8, 9 to 13, 14 to 19 and 20 to 28 and a team category.

After a pleasant round, 16-year-old Mark Bravey achieved the best gross, his very impressive 76 earning him a Tees Active annual voucher for the activity of his choice and £30. Winning the same was 16-year-old David Riordan who finished with the day’s best net of 58 and a gross of 82.
Others receiving Tees Active vouchers included 12-year-old Alice Jones who won best girl’s gross score with a round of 106 and 14-year-old Jennifer Lee the girl’s best net with 77, gross of 113.
In the handicap categories, Alex Wrigley of Hartlepool Golf Club grossed 78 with a net of 71 in the 0 to 8 category, Jonathan Heslop grossed 86, 75 net in the 9 to 13 category, Stewart Bath achieved a gross of 84 with a net of 69 in the 14 to 19 and Christopher Callaghan got a 88 gross and 67 net in the 20 to 28 category.
Meanwhile in the team competition, youngsters from Billingham Golf Club took first and second place with net totals of 203 and 208 respectively.
