Summer Success

Billingham Town Under 9's

HAVING won three tournaments over the summer, Billingham Town Under-9’s football team have continued their success and added another trophy to their ever-expanding cabinet.

The team’s rich vein of form began in May with victory in their pre-season tournament, beating Stockton Town in the final.

June also brought success, beating Brinkburn in the final of the Mount Pleasant Cup, and a 2-0 win against Leven in July’s final of the Acklam Cup at Kader Junior Football Club completed the hat trick.

Not content with their string of victories however, the boys recently defeated Greatham F.C. 1-0 to win Stockton Town’s pre-season tournament, making it four trophies in consecutive months; a deft header from Ryan Chan proving to be the decisive goal on the day.

As well as team success, several team members have attracted interest from big football clubs over the summer.

Bradley Walker has now been selected as part of Middlesbrough Football Academy, Daniel Rowe is due to start the Middlesbrough Development Scheme and Jack Bennett and Richard Cooper are part of Hartlepool United Development Scheme.

Most of the boys began training at Billingham Soccer School at five years old, coached by Billingham Forum Manager and F.A.-qualified Coach Allan McDermott.

Allan said: “The links formed between Billingham Forum Soccer School and Billingham Town Football Club are proving to be very successful and the Under-9 team are a credit to themselves and their Managers Alan Rowe and Ian Murray.”

The team are now preparing for their first season in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance League, with their opening fixture against Stockton West End tomorrow.
