Summer of Sport

The children of the borough of Stockton are in for a fantastic summer of sport as Tees Active have organised their largest ever Summer Sporting Start holiday programme. The Sporting Start programme which is funded by NHS Stockton on Tees has been developed to encourage children to experience taster sessions in a number of sports and physical activities.

The activities will take place at Splash, Thornaby Pavilion, Thornaby Pool and the recently opened Billingham Forum. With the return of Billingham Forum the Sporting Start team have added week long learn to skate courses to the programme which will be led by Dancing on Ice star Andrei Lipanov.

Cheryl Bythway, Young Persons Active Coordinator said “The diversity of activities available to children this summer should hopefully keep the children of the borough active throughout the holiday period. With over 6500 places available and with activities like zumba, learn to swim, gymnastics, trampolining, spinning, street dance, rookie lifeguarding, badminton and squash this is definitely our most attractive programme to date.”

Cheryl added “We have delivered leaflets to every primary school in Billingham and information is available at all our centres or visit www.teesactive.co.uk. So if your child is aged between 3 and 16 they have no excuse to be bored and inactive this summer.”

Bookings for the Sporting Start programme commence on Thursday July 14th for further information contact Cheryl Bythway on (01642) 551381.
