Monday 8th May saw the return of the Stockton Schools Primary Gala after a gap from the sporting calendar of over 10 years
This swimming gala, which was organised and sponsored by Tees Active Ltd, Stockton Schools Sports Partnerships and Stockton Sports Development Team
was watched by an enthusiastic crowd of over 300 people. The gala was a culmination of 5 days of preliminary swimming festivals where children from twenty-eight primary schools competed to discover the six fastest swimmers and the six fastest relay teams
Billingham Forum was the venue to discover the fastest primary school swimmers in Stockton. Over 200 swimmers competed in events consisting of single length races in Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke and also 4 x 1 medley and freestyle relays and for the more accomplished swimmers there was an Open Butterfly event for each year group.
All the swimmers and spectators were treated to a swimming demonstration from two of Britain’s finest youngest swimmers Jemma Lowe and Jessica Dickons who both swim for the Borough of Stockton Swimming Scheme and are members of Tees Active Sports Academy.
Jemma fresh from competing in the Commonwealth Games and Jessica the current British 200m Butterfly Champion and celebrating her selection to the full British Team to compete in the European Championships presented medals to the winning swimmers and signed autographs for the young swimmers
Carol Grainger, Tee’s Actives Swimming Development Manager said, “The event has been a fantastic success and I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to its success. Who knows we may have seen a budding Jessica or Jemma competing tonight “
