Sporting and Health Bonanza

 

Street Dance (Group Street Dance.jpg)St Michaels RC School in Billingham definitely threw themselves into the Launch of Real radio’s ‘Get Kids Active for Summer Campaign,’ With the  help of Tees Active they  put on the most comprehensive and one of the largest physical activity and health days in the North East.

Over 600 pupils had the opportunity to take part in boxercise, aerobics, street dance and salscise sessions not to mention the opportunity to climb a 6 metre high portable climbing tower. As well as taking part in inter form cricket, football softball, rounders and basketball competitions, a team of pupils also rowed the equivalent of the English Channel an incredible THREE times on the Concept 2 indoor rowers loaned from the new Activ8 Gym at Billingham Belasis.

Boxersise (Boxercise with year 9's.jpg)The healthy message did not end there as Master Chef Finalist Dave Hall delivered 2 interactive cooking shows where he demonstrated to pupils and staff how to produce dishes such as Chilli prawn pasta, Macaroni and cheese. Cajun Chicken with Salsa, and Spicy Moroccan Pork.

Allan McDermott, Tees Active Sports Academy Manager said “This has been a fantastic event and the pupil’s enthusiasm and behaviour have been absolutely first class. The fact that the school collapsed the curriculum for the day shows their commitment to their pupil’s fitness and health. I would like to thank Tony Hall from the PE department who has been integral to making the day such a success “
