Six For Soccer Scheme
SIX local boys, from Billingham Forum Soccer School have joined the Hartlepool United football development scheme.
The promising youngsters, namely Ben Hughes, Michael McGee, Marcus Liddle, Lewis Gate, Max Brookes and Callum McNicholas were spotted playing football in a youth tournament for Billingham Town Under 8’s by a Hartlepool United scout. Ninety-six boys were signed up to the scheme initially but only twenty-four now remain, with the six from Billingham Soccer School making the cut.

At the tender age of five years old the youngsters joined Billingham Forum Soccer School with dreams of playing football professionally and it is hoped that their new weekly training regime with Hartlepool United will help them achieve their goals.
Now aged eight, the boys train at Manor School Hartlepool for one-and-a-half hours per week and continue to play for Billingham Town Under 9’s, coached by team Manager Rob Hughes. They will also be periodically called upon to play for Hartlepool United with their first fixture against Hull City on 24th September.
Manager of Billingham Forum Allan McDermott is proud of what they’ve accomplished so far,
“This is an excellent achievement for the boys,” he said.
“However, they are still very young and there are no guarantees in football. I hope they continue to enjoy their football alongside their homework!” added F.A.-qualified Coach, Allan McDermott.
Billingham Forum Soccer School runs four times a week from Monday to Thursday, 4:30 to 5:30pm.
As well as Billingham Forum, both Stockton Sports Centre and Thornaby Pavilion also offer football coaching from F.A.-qualified coaches.
