Santas Little Superstars

The Year 6 pupils of Pentland School in Billingham participated in a festive Superstar competition at Billingham Forum. The event which was organised by Tees Actives Young Persons Active Health Team which is supported by North Tees PCT, consisted of teams of boys and girls taking part in games such as Santa’s Belly Bounce, Christmas Eve Capers, Rudolf’s Reindeer Relay and Snow Whites Slalom.

Each team was given a festive name so, Grumpy’s Gremlins, Docs Demons, Dopey’s Diamonds, Sneezy’s Superstars and Happy’s Horrors battled there way through the games which tested agility, speed, balance, coordination, teamwork and communication skills.
Christmas Eve Capers proved extremely challenging, as a blindfolded teammate was guided through a complicated course by verbal instructions given by another member of the team, as they delivered a Christmas present to its intended destination.

Vicki Fawcett event organiser said “The children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves today and we hope to organise a similar event in 2008 when we will have a Stockton Schools Superstar competition. With the support of North Tees PCT we are aiming to increase physical activity and tackle childhood obesity in the borough.”
David Campbell head teacher of Pentland Primary school said “Children and teachers were absolutely buzzing when they returned to school after the superstar’s competition. I can thoroughly recommend this type of event organised by Tees Active, to any other school."

In a closely fought competition Grumpy’s Gremlin’s edged out their rivals but all the teams were winners as they had a surprise visit from a dancing Santa and each participant was presented with a goodie bag contained free skating passes, Active Start water bottles among other goodies.
