Riverside Roar for Butterfly Queens


Swimming sensations Jessica Dickons and Jemma Lowe were acclaimed by the Riverside faithful before Saturday’s home clash with Reading. Boro have been impressed with the Tees Active Sports Academy duo who have continued to gain a great swimming reputation in both the UK and worldwide.

In 2006, 16-year-old Jessica became European Junior Champion and British record holder for the 200m Butterfly, made her senior British team debut and won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Helsinki. She was voted BBC Look North Sports Kid of the Year and also picked up the Evening Gazette Junior Sportsperson of the Year award. A huge Boro fan, with her favourite player being George Boateng, Jessica will travel with the British team to compete in next months World Championships in Australia.Jessica Dickons and Jemma Lowe

Over the past 12 months, Jemma, a 16 year old from Hartlepool, competed for Wales at the Commonwealth games and reached the final in both the 100m and 200m butterfly, becoming the Welsh record holder at the 100m butterfly. Jemma was also short listed for the Evening Gazette Junior Sportsperson of the Year award.
